Red wine stain? Here's some tips how to remove
Posted by Scott Pendlebury on 17 Sep 2014
Removing wine stains from fabrics, carpet or from clothing can be time consuming. When red wine spills onto a carpet, it can spoil the carpet’s appearance, thereby affecting a house clean. An ill judged clean can make the stain worse, not better and will affect the appearance of the room and may lead to the carpet ultimately being replaced. There are certain tips available as to how to clean and remove red wine stains from fabrics.

It is annoying when red wine is spilt on clothes, a carpet or on another fabric. The first thought might be to call professional cleaners, if the red wine stain is in the carpet. However, professional cleaners can be expensive. Another idea would be to try and remove the stain yourself. Do not attempt to rub the stain severely, as it will only worsen the stain. It is vital that the stain isn’t allowed to dry, as it then becomes increasingly tough to remove. Carefully, try to blot the stain with some kitchen paper.
Another tip is to apply some salt onto the stained area while it is still wet. Although it sounds strange, salt is adept at stopping red wine from getting into the fibers of clothing.
Another interesting combination is a water, soap and vinegar mixture is placed on the stain while it is still damp. After this mixture has been put on the clothing or fabric, use a clean dishcloth or kitchen paper to dry it. This should remove the stain. Using a dishcloth with cold water, place on the area which was once stained, before using a clean dish cloth to rub the area once again.

The red white stain on a fabric or on clothing can be removed by white wine. By placing some white wine on the stain, it should help to remove the stain. Use some kitchen paper on the stain to complete the process. Failing that, baking soda can also be applied.

Where all these tips have been tried and the red wine stain still will not go, it is best to purchase a red wine stain remover. Please be careful when applying this to a piece of clothing. Check by reading the instructions that the red wine stain remover is suitable for the fabric that you intend to use the red wine stain remover on.
Sometimes, a red wine stain isn’t noticed until after it has dried. Unfortunately, the stain becomes more difficult to remove. However, it is possible to remove it. The first step is to pour some white wine over the stain before covering the stain with baking soda and water. It is best to leave the item for a couple of hours, putting some water on the fabric every so often. After this has been carried out, wash the fabric. This should remove the dry stain of red wine. It is important not to use warm or hot water on that fabric, as it will make the stain tougher to remove.

Do not attempt to remove the red wine stain if it is on a piece of clothing which has to be dry cleaned. In that instance, it is advised to take the item to professional cleaners and they will be able to assist in removing the stain.
